Määritelmä
Kemiallisen alkuaineen atomipainoon ja neutronilukuun perustuva variantti. Saman alkuaineen eri isotoopeilla on sama määrä protoneja, mutta eri määrä neutroneja (vrt. nuklidi).

One of two or more atoms which have the same number of protons in their nucleus, and hence the same atomic number, but differ in the number of neutrons, and hence in their atomic weights. Their chemical properties are identical (ISO 772:1996).

Keemilise elemendi teisend, mis erineb teistest aatomituumas olevate neutronite arvu poolest. Aatommassi poolest erinev elemendi teisend (ÕS).
