Määritelmä (en) a numerical metric that can quantitatively characterize a weld undercut imperfection in terms of its potential impact on initiating a fatigue crack

Selite (en) The Undercut Severity Index (Ψ_USI) estimates the fatigue crack initiation life of geometric weld imperfection such as local undercut. Ψ_USI considers the 3D geometry of the local undercut, weld seam geometry, weld misalignments, local stresses at the undercut location, material strength mismatch, and the fatigue strength coefficient at the undercut location.
