a system in which the price of a good is updated within a guaranteed amount of time depending on changes in supply or demand

Within the context of the electricity system the term real-time pricing is often used when customers are charged the day-ahead market prices of electricity. However, since these market operate a day-ahead the prices for every hour are not updated in real time, rather updates only happen once a day, for the next day.
