Määritelmä (en)
geography of power relations in the Arctic
Selite (en)
The Arctic is a sea basin enclosed between Northern Eurasia and North America: a highly militarised region, strategically crucial for submarine warfare, airpower and missile surveillance due to its extreme climate and the shortest air routes between major northern powers. Climate change, resource exploitation, and the growing presence of non-Arctic actors may transform the governance of the region. Depending on the level of collaboration or mistrust between the major powers of the two shores (today the U.S.A. and Russia), the region can become an arena of cooperation or confrontation.
