Call for Posters

    Tieteen termipankista

Open Access of terminology is one of the key issues in developing parallel use of languages in an information society. Scientific terminology brings special demands on professionalism, gate-keeping, monitoring, maintenance, and updating of the databases. All terminological work asks for resources, human and technological. Is it possible to develop international cooperation without turning terminology work solely into English?

The conference will approach terminological issues from different angles:

    · language policy: terminological databases as means to develop parallel use of languages

    · terminology work: methods such as limited crowd sourcing

    · contextuality of terms

    · interdisciplinary terminology work

    · language technology: comparing wiki-based solutions with more traditional ones

    · ontologies and terminological databases

Invited speakers include Marita Kristiansen, Henrik Nilsson, and Rita Temmerman

The conference will include a poster session. Some of the posters will also be chosen for a short oral presentation (ca. 5-10 min) in the main session. Anonymous abstracts of no more than 500 words, excluding data and references, should be submitted by September 7, 2015. They will be evaluated by the organizing committee and by the members of the scientific committee. Notifications of acceptance will be announced by September 15, 2015. The participation fee is 50 euros.

The conference will celebrate the first five years of the Bank of Finnish Terminology in Arts and Sciences.
